STEM Night 2020: June 2

Save the Date: STEM Night, Tuesday, June 2, 6:00-8:30 PM

Rescheduled from our snowed-out January date!

Kirkland Middle School is going BIG on our STEM night this year, and you and your kid really won't want to miss it!

We will have food trucks on site: bring the family for dinner!

The evening will start with a tech talk from 6:20-6:50 by Steve Smith, VR Lead of Epic Games (the makers of Fortnite!): "Are we having fun yet? What it's really like to make games."

All night, industry partners will be on hand to talk with kids about careers in STEM and to share some exciting activities:

  • Try out virtual reality with engineers from Valve
  • Learn about careers in health and do a Biometric Screening with Evergreen Health
  • Talk to engineers from Big Fish Games and Epic Games, and try out a few video games
  • Learn about coding and robotics with engineers from Microsoft
  • Build an electronic survey with Qualtrics
  • Have a virtual reality Mars Rover experience with engineers from Boeing
  • Try out Google Cardboard with engineers from Google

There will be more fun activities to try with STEM partners in education, including

 

  • Mathnasium of Kirkland
  • Girl Scouts of Western Washington

Also learn about STEM educational opportunities within community the Lake Washington School District and in higher education, including

 

  • University of Washington, Seattle
  • University of Washington, Bothell
  • University of Washington, Seattle CS Department
  • Lake Washington Institute of Technology 
  • Northwest University
  • Tesla School
  • Kirkland Middle School Math Olympiad Team
  • Code Purple: Lake Washington HS FTC Robotics Team
  • DigiPen

Our own students from KiMS STEM classes will be hosting hands-on demonstrations of their project work, including:

  • Automation projects from Robotics
  • CO2 Dragster race (at 8 PM)  from Design and Modeling
  • Advanced project work from Design and Modeling
  • Video games from Game Design I and II
  • Remote control cardboard creatures from CS for Makers
  • CNC and 3D printing demonstrations by Technology Student Association 

The night will end with a door prize drawing, with all attending students eligible to win!
